 Reverend Doctor Marcus J. Gibson, D. Min.


Dr. Gibson is a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  He is a 1990 honor graduate of Watson Chapel High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) in 1995, a Master of Divinity degree from the Morehouse School of Religion (MSR) on the campus of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in 2009, and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from the McCormick Theological Seminary in 2016.  In 2013, He successfully completed the first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at St. Francis Hospital.  Dr. Gibson is a former US Army officer, serving on active duty from 1995-1999. 

Dr. Gibson is a past president of the Metro-Columbus Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and has worked with various other community-based organizations within the Columbus, Georgia area.  He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is a Master Mason out of Electric Light Lodge #45, Arkansas Jurisdiction (Prince Hall Affiliate).

Dr. Gibson is active within the National Baptist denomination at all levels.  He is a Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB) certified dean and certified instructor in various Christian Leadership courses.  Dr. Gibson is an adjunct professor of Biblical and Religious studies at the Beulah Heights University Columbus extension site. He has served as a faculty member of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education for the last five Annual sessions.  Dr. Gibson is a past dean of the Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Association Congress of Christian Education and of the General Missionary Baptist Convention (GMBC) of Georgia Christian Leadership Institute (CLI).  Currently, he serves as President of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Association Congress of Christian Education, and as a member General Missionary Baptist Convention (GMBC) of Georgia Board of Christian Education.  He is the Dean of the General Missionary Baptist Convention (GMBC) of Georgia Congress of Christian Education. 

Dr. Gibson is the proud father of one son, MarDarius Renard Gibson, and one adorable daughter, MarKayla Carrie Beatrice Gibson.  He has served as the pastor of Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church since 1999, and has borne witness to the active grace of our Lord Jesus Christ within this local community of believers as it strives for the continual advancing of God's kingdom in this world.  He is a preacher who is passionate about the Church, his family, his faith, and the Word of God.
