Bishop Brandon B. Porter
Born to Mrs. Ida M. Porter and the late Bishop W. L. Porter on December 16, 1958, Bishop Brandon B. Porter graduated from the University of Memphis, formerly Memphis State University, with a major in Rehabilitation of Public Offenders and a minor in Criminal Justice.
Bishop Porter accepted his call to ministry in 1976 and was ordained an elder in 1978 by Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr. Bishop Porter began his pastorate at Greater Allen Avenue COGIC in 1978; and in 1981, he was appointed pastor of Greater Victory Temple COGIC (both in Jackson, TN). In 1986, he was appointed District Superintendent. In 1991, he was appointed Pastor of Greater Community Temple (GCT) COGIC in Memphis – now “One Church in Two Locations.” Under his leadership, GCT has grown and expanded to 5,000+ members and continues to progress in excellence and outreach.
Bishop Porter, like his father, has meticulously served the Church Of God In Christ, Inc., on many levels (local, district, jurisdictional and national) in numerous capacities but more notably as vice chairman of the Trustee Board; president of the International Youth Department; national director of Public Relations and Marketing; executive producer of the COGIC Today TV show; and coordinator of Christmas in November. In 2009, he succeeded his father by becoming the Jurisdictional Prelate of the Central Tennessee Jurisdiction of the Church Of God In Christ. Under Bishop Brandon Porter’s leadership, the jurisdiction has flourished with over eighty churches and continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.
Success knows no boundaries for Bishop Brandon Porter as he is currently seeking a position on the General Board – the highest governing body within the Church Of God In Christ, consisting of twelve elected bishops, including the Presiding Bishop.
Though having extensive ecclesiastical responsibilities, Bishop Porter still manages to spend quality time with his wife Melody and their two sons, Brandon II and Bryson.
