Dr. Bill Adkins


Active and alert to the needs of the people, Dr. Bill Adkins has stood before mayors, governors, presidents and international dignitaries on behalf of causes and concerns. He is recognized around the world as a humanitarian and scholar. This former broadcast journalist is regarded as a broadcast icon in Memphis where he was a TV News Anchor and radio Talk Show Host. He is a charismatic leader and provocative thinker, responsible for numerous initiatives in Memphis and around the world. He is a much sought after speaker and lecturer.

This visionary leader started Greater Imani Church and Christian Center in Memphis, Tennessee on November 1, 1989 with 29 dedicated friends and family members. Since that time, Greater Imani has enjoyed phenomenal growth, making it one of the largest congregations in Memphis. 

His  missions and ministries continue to bless people around the world. Dr. Adkins has led numerous missionary journeys to Africa and the Caribbean, establishing health clinics in Koalack Senegal, Banjul, Gambia and Kumasi, Ghana. A global humanitarian, he has actively supported numerous economic development efforts on the African continent.  He is credited with delivering over five million dollars in medicines,  medical supplies and equipment to West Africa.  He received the distinction of being one of the few Americans enstooled as an Ashanti Chief in Ghana. He has widely traveled the world, preaching and teaching on five of the six habitable continents.

He has been featured on DAN RATHER REPORTS, and has been interviewed by the BBC, NBC, Australia’s Today Program and USA Today Newspaper.  His sermons have been featured in THE AFRICAN AMERICAN PULPIT magazine, HOPE AND HEALING, and his sermon A DREAM FULFILLED is now posted in the Library of Congress.

Our author holds degrees in History, Theology and Divinity and is the recipient of an honorary doctorate. He is a graduate of the Harvard Divinity College Leadership Institute (2007) and was voted by readers of the Memphis Commercial Appeal Newspaper as Memphis’ Most Passionate Preacher (2008).  He has counseled and advised two presidents and continues to be instrumental in the causes and concerns of our citizens, serving on numerous boards and committees, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  He has served as national chaplain of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi.

His TV program, also titled,  POWER TO LIVE is seen weekly; nationally and internationally, on the WORD NETWORK, reaching over 93 million homes in the United States and the Caribbean,  along with over 200 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

He is the author of numerous books including: FROM AFRICA TO BETHLEHEM, LIVING IN THE SPIRIT and THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT ME, sold in bookstore nationwide.

He is married to the lovely Linda Kerr Adkins and they have four children, Taihia L. Adkins, Dr. Ronne' A Adkins, Christopher G. Adkins an William A. Adkins III.
