Fourth Street Day Care and Academy

Fourth Street Baptist Day Care started as a vision of Rev. Flakes in which for many years, he desired to have a complete child care development center, instead of a place to simply house and baby sit children.

When the church’s Christian Education Building was constructed in 1977, spaces for a day care center and nursery were finally included.  The day care center was licensed and opened in 1992 with Sis. Robena Flakes serving as the director.  Mrs. Flakes and her staff were honored as the State of Georgia’s first day care center to receive the “Center of Distinctionâ€? Award.

The center’s continual growth brought on the need for a larger facility.  As a result, the church eventually acquired land located at 6th and 8th streets in Columbus for the building of Fourth Street Day Care Center Inc.  Located at 515 8th Street, the Fourth Street Day Care Center opened in August 2004 with Mrs. Myra Lockhart as director and Mrs. Robena Flakes as the child care consultant.
Today, the center has the capacity for 218 children, 11 classrooms, a professional kitchen and a resource room.  The center uses the A Beka Curriculum and the children wear uniforms.  The theme of the Day Care Center is “Developing Life’s Foundation from an Acorn to an Oak Tree.â€?  The center’s mission is to offer quality child care in a clean, safe and loving environment.

The children are taught from the Books of the Bible including the 23rd Psalms, the Lord’s Prayer, and memory verses.

The Word commissions us to go out and take care of the little children, and Fourth Street’s Day Care takes that seriously.

The center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6: 30 p.m. on Monday though Friday.   For more info, call 706-507-4679.   To obtain more information, call (706) 507-4679.
