Celebrating 30 Years of Academic Excellence" Who is Reverend R. D. Wess? Reverend R. D. Wess was the Pastor of Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church (LHMBC) for over two decades. During his administration, the church experienced great growth spiritually as well as physically. Rev. Wess was highly interested in the Christian education of the congregation and the community. He established a very solid education program; the roots of which are evident even today. ![]() High School Seniors What is a R. D. Wess Scholarship? The Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church awards non-renewable scholarships to graduating high school seniors based on church participation, extra-curricular activities, scholastic performance, and community service. The R.D. Wess Scholarship Program has awarded approximately $400,000 in scholarships over the past 28 years to nearly 500 students. Many are now leaders in their area of expertise which includes business, education, engineering, healthcare, law enforcement, and the armed services. WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A SCHOLARSHIP? Any current high school senior that is a Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church member planning to attend an accredited institution of higher education or two-year technical training school. WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS? The R. D. Wess Scholarship Committee will consider the following for the purpose of awarding scholarships: Church Participation, Extra-curricular Activities, School Activities and/or Community Service Academic Awards, Honors, and Special Recognitions Letters of Recommendations from a Ministry Leader, Employer, Community Leader, and/or Teacher/Guidance Counselor Written Essay (150 to 200 words in length) clearly printed or typed. Eighth Grade Students Eighth Grade Students this is an opportunity to witness what it takes to be eligible for an R. D. Wess Scholarship and to celebrate and acknowledge awards, honors and recognition you've received throughout the first 8 years of your quest for higher education. You will be asked to provide a list of awards, honors, activities or special recognition you have earned. College Graduates College graduates this is an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge awards, honors and recognition you've earned as you complete your quest for higher education. You will be expected to provide along with date of graduation and degree(s) earned, any awards, honors, activities and special recognition. |
