Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea. He grew up in Nazareth with his parents Mary and Joseph. When he was twelve years old, Jesus went to Jerusalem for Passover with his family. They celebrated the Passover by eating bread made without yeast with salt water for forty days (Exodus 12:21).

After this time had passed, Jesus began his ministry as a teacher (Luke 4:16). He taught people about God's love for them and about how they should live their lives. He told them that if they obey God's law then they will go to heaven when they die (Matthew 5:17Jesus also healed people who had diseases or were sick (Matthew 8:1-4; Luke 7:1-10).

When someone was sick or hurt, he would ask him or her what sin he or she had committed against God that caused this illness or injury.
